It’s been quite a journey but one we’re incredibly proud of.
Back in 2018, following the sudden departure of the previous tenants, The Stag was forced to close its doors. With no new tenants in sight, Charles Wells put the pub up for sale, and the future looked uncertain. The local community was devastated—not just at the loss of their pub, but at the very real risk it could be lost forever to residential development.
Rather than stand by, a small group of determined locals came together with a bold idea: to save The Stag by buying it as a community asset.
After lengthy negotiations with the brewery, a deal was struck. A village meeting was called, and through sheer passion, generosity, and grit, enough funds were raised to purchase the pub, carry out a full refurbishment, and secure the working capital needed to bring it back to life.
Today, The Stag is proudly owned by 42 local shareholders, united by a shared mission: to offer a welcoming, high-quality pub experience for locals and visitors alike.
The building has been completely refurbished, the gardens re-landscaped, and the spirit of the village is now poured into every pint, every plate, and every warm hello.
We’re honoured to be part of something so special and we’re thrilled to share it with you.
